Thanksgiving is acknowledging God as the one behind every good thing that happens around us, it is a celebration of the acts of God. Thanksgiving is a way to the heart of God, giving thanks to God is also a way of reminding God of what he has not done. In the case of the 10 lepers that were healed by Jesus in the book of Luke 17, only one of the lepers came back giving thanks and he was made whole, Luke 17:18-19(KJV) “There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. (19) And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.” Your level of thanksgiving shows your sense of value of what God has done for you in your life and destiny, if you are not a thanker then you are not a thinker. Thanksgiving is a way of putting God into remembrance, when you remember God he also remembers you, Isaiah 43:26 (KJV) “Put me in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified.” Thanksgiving justifies our destinies, through the benefits we enjoy from God. Benefits are God’s free will gift to man that we receive when we give him thanks, Psalm 103:2-6(KJV).

Thanksgiving secures answers to our prayers, prayer is incomplete without thanksgiving. Prayer of thanksgiving is the only sure way to reach out to God, you can pray amiss but you can never thank God amiss. Thanks givers are good doers, Psalm 92:1(KJV) “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High”. In everything we are expected to give thanks to God, no matter the situation, if the devil shows you one thing God has not done for you, show him 100 things that God has done for you. Thanks givers are high fliers, each time you give thanks to God, he takes you higher. Every genuine thanksgiving usually graduates into praises; God requires our thanksgiving. Going through the lane of thanksgiving, makes you arrive in signs and wonders.  Psalm 34:1-5 (KJV).

Thanksgiving and appreciation, simply means application for more, it is in thanksgiving that our destinies become secured. Thanksgiving is a special invitation that God does not say no to, God comes down to receive his glory because he alone deserves all the glory, Acts 12:23 (KJV). It is your attitude to gratitude that determines your altitude in life, in everything give thanks to God. Thanksgiving is the seal to your prayers, Phil 4:6 (KJV) “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God”.

Using your soul to bless the Lord, elongates your life and destiny, every one blessing the lord with their soul does not experience frustration. Thanksgiving is recounting the past acts of God, it is also appreciation in anticipation. In order to not lose favour from God, it is important to always give him thanks. Deut 1:11 (KJV). Don’t close your situation with murmuring, open it with thanksgiving.

WHY DO WE GIVE THANKS TO GOD?

1. THANKSGIVING IS WHAT WE OWE GOD. 2 Thess 2:13(KJV) “But we are bound to give thanks always to God….”, both as individuals and as a church, we owe it to God to give thanks. Thanksgiving is not a choice, it is mandatory. Psalm 50:14-15 (KJV) For every good thing we enjoy in life and destiny, we owe God thanks. Thanksgiving is the currency we pay for all the benefits we enjoy from God.
2. THANKSGIVING PRESERVES OUR BLESSINGS. Malachi 2:2-3 (KJV) “If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the Lord of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings…” Prayer gives you blessings but thanksgiving preserves the blessings. Giving thanks to God timely, is also as important as giving thanks.
3. GOD IS THE SOURCE OF OUR INCREASE. Philippians 2:13 (KJV) “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure”. Everything we have is from God, give thanks to God, for he is the doer of everything. The hand of the Lord is behind every good thing, John 15:5 (KJV).
4. THANKSGIVING PROVOKES FULFILMENT OF PROPHECY. John 11:41&43 (KJV) “…Father I thank thee that thou hast heard me. (43) And when he had thus spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth”. Thanksgiving is war fare to bring prophecy to fulfilment. 1 Timothy 1:18 (KJV).
5. THANKSGIVING PLEASES THE LORD. Psalm 69:30-31(KJV) “I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving. (31) This also shall please the Lord better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs”. Thanksgiving I equal to faith, just as faith pleases God, without thanksgiving it is impossible to please God. When you are thankful, you’re telling God that you believe in him. Hebrews 10:36(KJV).
6. THANKSGIVING PROVOKES SUPERNATURAL MULTIPLICATION. Acts 2:47 (KJV) “Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved”. When we give thanks to God, we enjoy multiplication. It is your addiction to thanksgiving that brings about addition in life and destiny. Jeremiah 30:19 (KJV).
